Philadelphia residents are still reeling following news of the tragic death of an 11-year-old girl who lost her life as the result of a DUI car accident. NBC News 10 in Philadelphia reported last month on the car accident that occurred at the intersection of Washington Ave. and 8th Street in South Philadelphia.
According to the report, 28-year-old Max Drosi failed to stop at a traffic signal and crashed his Chevy Impala into an SUV. The SUV then crashed into a nearby storefront, pinning the young girl against the building. The girl’s stepmother and her brother, age 3, were also injured in the accident, as was the SUV driver. An employee of the business where the SUV crashed was also transported to an area hospital, but it is believed that he will recover from his injuries.
Police do not believe that speed played a role in the accident and have made it clear that the driver of the SUV was not responsible in any way. Drosi, however, has been charged with homicide by vehicle, DUI, and other offenses. Police say that he was preoccupied with his GPS device when the accident occurred and was under the influence when he drove his car through the traffic light. At the time of the news report, it was unclear whether Drosi or the girl’s family had, as yet, retained a car accident lawyer in Philadelphia.
The tragic loss of this young girl’s life and the injuries that the other victims sustained as the result of one man’s negligent and reckless behavior demands justice. One minute, a Philadelphia family was taking a leisurely Sunday walk down the street, and the next minute, their little girl was dead and four others were injured because someone chose to get behind the wheel of a car while impaired and then drove while impaired and distracted. In addition to facing criminal charges, Drosi could very well face a civil suit from the girl’s parents, the driver of the SUV, and/or the store employee who was injured. With the help of a competent and knowledgeable attorney, all of these victims could sue Drosi for compensation as a result of their losses.
